SmARTist Smashing Success Panel
This week I joined the 6th annual SmARTist Telesummit panel to help emerging and established artists grow their businesses doing what they love.
Getting Past The Things That Get In Our Way
In reality, every issue explored, was an issue any entrepreneur who has a passion for their business faces.
Participants went straight to the real questions that face them every day. And I fielded questions about discouragement and disapproval from those closest to us.
Fabulous questions, amazing answers. As a special treat, I’m including a substantial sound bite. A. Goodwin of smARTist Telesummit, 2012, asks me to answer a question about how to face discouragement:

The Difference Between Yearnings and Cravings, Mastermind Moments

We All Have Things We Want
But do these things come from our ego self, and can therefore be nothing but impermanent, or from a deeper part that wants to expand and express more of it’s beingness, thereby lasting forever?
That was a question that arose, believe it or not, in response to some deep questioning by one of the participants in a business mastermind?
What came of the conversation, shared among the members, was the idea of the difference between “yearnings” and “cravings”.
There is no end of craving.
Hence contentment alone is the best way to happiness.
Therefore, acquire contentment.
Sivananda
Yearning vs. Cravings
People came to agree that cravings were something we hoped to satisfy with some consuming or acquiring. But ultimately, cravings can only be satisfied temporarily.
Yearnings, on the other hand, were thought to come from a deeper, more permanent place inside us. They are an invitation to a call to action. Explored, answered and acted upon, yearnings can yield actual changes to our being that can last…forever.
Take the yearning to become a musician, or an artist. Once acted upon, and a new skill set is practiced, the satisfaction of expressing music or painting can not be taken from us.
Or consider the yearning to enjoy the business that we began to be independent, practice a unique talent, or just to experience challenge. This yearning can actually be calling us to be more capable, able, and to provide a greater service that is needed in the world. Again, once earned, these will go on.
At the innermost core of all loneliness is a deep and powerful yearning
for union with one’s lost self.
Brendan Francis
What Do You Long For?
So what are you experiencing, craving? Or yearning?
If it’s yearning, what is it calling to you to become? You don’t have to explore on your own. Get the support you need to make the progress you want.
Wish you had a safe, supportive, structured, place each week that could aid you in becoming who and what you want this year?
I lead small, highly personalized, targeted and results-oriented groups each week for entrepreneurs, serious about creating dynamic changes in their businesses and personal lives. We have a great time and we get more done together than any of us could alone!

Masterminding Moments, What Is Getting in Your Way?

Getting Rid of What Gets in Your Way
Sometimes what gets in our way is an outdated belief or story about ourself such as “I don’t have a choice, I have to do this.”
But at other times, what gets in the way is literally too much stuff; too many books, e-mail, catalogs, or clothes.
Whether it’s actual physical clutter, or the inner clutter of outdated ideas and behaviors, the outer result can be the same, an energy drag.
Lose the Drag
In physics it’s called “friction” and it what slows a moving object. In one of my masterminds this week we called it “clutter”, “roadblock”, “drama” which, as we explored together, has the same effect of slowing us down, or in some cases bringing our goals to a standstill.
How do you declutter your inner and outer environment? Inspiring one another, my mastermind group came up with several inspired ideas:
- Get the whole family/whole office involved; make it a party atmosphere and include a fun activity when a space is cleared (this is good for actual physical declutter and reorganizing).
- Take regular getaway retreats of some kind to unwind and allow the inner world to declutter and reorganize (the inspiration was to avoid waiting, but plan and book a trip asap).
- Find a high school student with a knack for clearing and reorganizing. Give him/her a table and several labeled boxes for trash, donation, etc and keep busy nearby doing something that uses your own unique talent.
That’s just a few of the ideas that popped up. Now it’s your turn. What better time to get your new year off on the right speed and direction than now. Clear out anything that might get in your way and get going!
Wish you had a safe, supportive, structured, place each week that could aid you in becoming who and what you want this year?

Masterminding Moments Happy New Year

When Was the Last Time You Reconnected With Your Passion and Purpose in Your Business?
My masterminds ended the year last year with an assignment to write a “love list” for their businesses; refreshing themselves in what they loved most about, and what had drawn them to, business for themselves originally.
What Would Be Your Manifesto?
One member took the assignment to all together more intentional level. She had come to the Mastermind to reconnect with her creative process. And connect she did! She wrote her own Manifesto (aka Jerry McGuire style) which blew the roof off of any resistance or block she’d feel experiencing in her business. Now she’s basking in focus, clarity and enthusiasm for her business and her life.
Another member says she’s feeding her own spirit again, not only nourishing her business but making new, more courageous decisions and taking new, more definitive actions.
Waa Hoo! I’m so Impressed!
Next week, we’ll be discussing the fantasy of the “desire for speed and huge leaps” vs. the ease and power of creating a momentum in our businesses.
Wish you had a safe, supportive, structured, place each week that could aid you in becoming who and what you want this year?
